There are a number of formations in western Kansas that are similar to this. The Monument Rocks and Castle Rocks are two of the better known. It wasn't until the Nature Conservancy purchased the McGuire Ranch that Little Jerusalem became generally accessible.
Kansas
The formations have hads other names, but the name "Little Jerusalem" has stuck. Evidently, it was because of some assumed semblance to the old city of Jerusalem.
The land is owned by the Nature Conservancy, but through a partnership with the state of Kansas, it is also a state park.
There are just a few miles of unpaved road to reach the park, but the surface isn't too bad. The park is surprisingly well-developed, with benches and covered shade and good information signs through-out.
The paths are easily to walk; you won't need hiking boots. One of the things that makes these formations different from Monument Rocks and Castle Rocks is that the base level and the formations, themselves are nearly pristine from damage by years of thoughtless people. There are plenty of signs encouraging people to please stay on the paths.
You cannot get lost on these trails.
I believe there are guided tours down at the base level, but the trails at the top level are good enough to have a nice view.
The lower level leads to the Smokey River.
It's a beautiful and interesting area; you won't be bothered by very many people on the trail.
